Arsenic and inorganic arsenic compounds

چکیده

Arsenic, arsenic trioxide and pentoxide, arsenous acids, arsenic acid and their salts (arsenites and arsenates) are carcinogenic substances (Carcinogen category 1) and do not, therefore, have MAK and BAT values (Greim 2002). The former TRK value (technical exposure limit) for arsenic and its inorganic compounds was 0.10 mg arsenic/m (measured as the inhalable fraction of the aerosol; calculated as arsenic). This arsenic concentration in air correlated with an arsenic concentration in urine of 130 μg/l at the end of exposure or the end of the shift after several previous shifts (see the EKA documentation for arsenic trioxide in Volume 2 of this series; Greim and Lehnert 1995). The inorganic arsenic and methylated metabolites are analysed together.

Arsenic and Arsenic Compounds

Arsenic (atomic number, 33; relative atomic mass, 74.92) has chemical and physical properties intermediate between a metal and a nonmetal, and is often referred to as a metalloid or semi-metal. It belongs to Group VA of the Periodic Table, and can exist in four oxidation states: –3, 0, +3, and +5. Arsenite, AsIII, and arsenate, AsV, are the predominant oxidation states under, respectively, redu...

The carcinogenicity of arsenic.

A carcinogenic role of inorganic arsenic has been suspected for nearly a century. Exposure to inorganic arsenic compounds occurs in some occupational groups, e.g., among smelter workers and workers engaged in the production and use of arsenic containing pesticides. Substantial exposure can also result from drinking water in certain areas and the use of some drugs. Tobacco and wine have had high...

Airborne arsenic exposure and excretion of methylated arsenic compounds.

First void urine samples were collected from copper smelter workers exposed to inorganic arsenic and from unexposed controls. Arsenic compounds (As (III), As (V), methylarsonic acid and dimethylarsinic acid) in these samples were analyzed by selective volatilization as arsines with determination of arsenic by plasma excitation emission spectrometry. On the day preceding the urine sample collect...

A case of cirrhosis and primary carcinoma of the liver in chronic industrial arsenical intoxication.

Arsenical poisoning may occur in industry, in three forms: (I) From inhalation of or contact with dust of inorganic compounds, (2) from inhalation of arseniuretted hydrogen, (3) from contact with organic arsenic compounds. The inorganic compounds act as local irritants to the skin and mucosa and may have a carcinogenic effect. Arseniuretted hydrogen acts as a haemolytic agent and organic arseni...

Effect of Arsenic (As2o3) on Haemetological Parameters of Freshwater Air Breathing Fish, Channa punctatus (Bloch)

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element found widely in the environment. However, on recent days the level of arsenic in the environment has increased several folds due to its use as pesticide, defoliant, electronics, thermal power plants, wood preservatives and metal industry. Arsenic has been reported as one of the most alarming chemical in the environment [1], present in different forms and...
